Nestled in the tranquil southern stretch of Northumberland, Stocksfield is a charming commuter village gracing the south bank of the River Tyne. Located just 14 miles west of Newcastle upon Tyne, and roughly 10 miles east of Hexham, it’s beautifully positioned within a richly historic rural landscape.
Surrounded by smaller hamlets like Broomley, Hindley, New Ridley, and Mickley, Stocksfield offers both pastoral serenity and community warmth. It serves as a gateway to the Tyne Valley, where winding riverbanks and lush countryside invite relaxed riverside strolls, wildlife spotting, and moments of calm amidst nature’s beauty.
Conveniently connected, Stocksfield is served by its own railway station on the historic Tyne Valley Line—an elegant slice of early 19th-century infrastructure linking Newcastle, Carlisle, and beyond.
Just nearby, the graceful Bywell Bridge—a Grade II–listed, stone-arched marvel from 1838—spans the Tyne, underscoring the area’s historical depth. And each May, the renowned Northumberland County Show takes place in the grounds of Bywell Hall, bringing local agricultural traditions to life in this idyllic setting.
Whether you’re seeking a peaceful country retreat, a taste of rural heritage, or easy access to city life, Stocksfield combines scenic beauty, community charm, and historical intrigue in one delightful package.
